INTRODUCTION

The EasyLink™ Watchdog is intended for automatically system reboot if the event of lock-up has been occurred. The EasyLink™ Watchdog does not require any human intervention. Thus the EasyLink™ Watchdog will save Time and Money that would normally be wasted on expensive callout maintenance charges. However, if required, through the Network Management System the EasyLink™ Watchdog can simply report the fault and call for human assistance. The visiting engineer will already be armed with a detailed fault analysis report, again saving both system down time and onsite maintenance time.

The EasyLink™ Watchdog is essential for maintaining unattended kiosks, ATM machines, POS terminals, remote servers (file, web, database, communication, etc), gateway systems, control systems, measurement or scientific instrumentations and any other electronic systems that must be run in 24x7x365 mode.

The EasyLink™ Watchdog includes:

• The autonomous microprocessor Controller with WD timer, AC power switch, reset switch and embedded software
• Standard RS-232 (Serial) interface, which is connected to monitored unattended computer based system

How to find a solution if this occurs? The quickest and the most effective reaction are critical, if you use mission-critical applications and it is necessary to minimize the down time. The EasyLink™ WD will also prevent the need for operation system engineer visits on site.

The EasyLink™ WD Controller uses the Atlantic-Link Communication Protocol. The EasyLink™ WD Controller via RS-232 (Serial) interface communicates in ''heartbeat'" mode with an unattended computer based system (for example, information kiosk). At the same time the EasyLink™ WD Controller monitors its external physical sensors such as door locked/opened, power supply status before UPS input and after UPS output, temperature and many other external influence controls. The EasyLink™ WD Real Time Software Package (RTS-P) component works under Windows 2000/XP.

Software scalable sensors monitor hardware disk free space, kiosk device (card reader, etc) behavior, public browser component accessibility, proximity or biometric sensor serviceability and many others. If a problem occurs with Uninterruptible Power Supply Unit (UPS) or OS lock-up, "heartbeat" mode will stop and the EasyLink™ WD sequentially tries to restart computer in programmable timeout interval and then switch off/on power supply. If some physical or software sensor changes its status, the EasyLink™ WD will send alarm signal via the Kiosks Network (or by E-mail) to the System Administrator or switch on the local flashing light signal (audio).

All events are written in computer log file if necessary. The EasyLink™ WD Controller has internal battery and can work without power approximately up to three days.

Atlantic-Link provides Software Development Kit (SDK) and Open Source Code thus allowing the EasyLink™ Watchdog RTS-P and the WDS Controller to be integrated into user's self developed software applications.
